Without doubt the 35 years of Museveni's rule have been a midwife for catalytic agency and eventual self-determination in the economic, social, political, cultural, spiritual, traditional and security dimensions of the life of Ugandans.
The 35 years of statehood under Museveni have provided ground for figuring out what works and what does not in Uganda's drive toward social transformation.
The statistics bear this out, and are not data for the English/Americans to see.
Ugandans are able to name the visceral-driven needs and seek redress through various channels such as the Local government and the indigenous African cultural structures.
Ethno-cultural-socio membership essentialism has delineated the lines through which Ugandans continue to appreciate diversity's potential enabling them to benefit from the collective potency on which Uganda as a state runs.
Political party membership essentialism has been exploited by subscribers along party lines to leverage outcomes based on party manifestos.
The 35 year-long mandate under Museveni has provided options by celebrating, among other things, diversity and making it work for the common good, e.g. cultural, political, economic, spiritual and social dimensions are pathways to development and transformation. Many Ugandans can serve or benefit from life promoting opportunities.
Diversity for diversity's case is reckless unless it is measurable and accountable through proportion, power, productivity, parity, life-enhancing best-practices, purpose and performance.
Proportion renders mechanisms through which equality, equity and eligibility for all Ugandans is provided.
Power institutionalises dependability and access. It is an incentive for ensuring that the welfare of the people is never neglected and prescribes fairness and representation when addressing people's interests.
Other forms of power include cosmic, cultural, political, economic and spiritual dimensions.
Power can be prescribed due to two forms. The benevolent and human.
The benevolent form may occur as a result of non-human forces such as weather changes, pestilence, famine or cataclysms.
Aspirational interests are human-originated powers and include self-preservation, liberty, happiness, mobility, work, earning an income, privacy, security, association, speech and the like.
Power triggers desire, will and competing interests.
With this in mind, one begins to gauge Museveni's 35 year long madate along the facts such as whether it has:
Used diversity to influence participation by many Ugandans in measures to transform Uganda to a middle-income nation.
There are measures expected of people and government to go through for the sake of integrity.
These may include such examples as ensuring that dialogue remains to leverage decorum, demystify impunity, dis-incentivize corruption, reclaim rule of law, espouse compromise and promote welfare for all.
Societies, whether Ugandan, or the world over rely on such mechansisms where individuals are submitting to the rules that promote a common good. This enhances sustenance and longevity.
The 35 year long mandate has raised the bar of the expectations of diversity, dialogue, dependability, dignity, democracy, deliverables, development and a trust-laden disposition.
Ugandans have for long tapped into the potential of multi-ethnicity. Multi-ethnicity is not portent for curses but a blessing for Uganda and Africa. Uganda has reached that realization under Museveni's 35-year rule.
Epilogue:
In writing this essay, I wanted to process the dignity of African craftwork as well as reckon with the effects of systemic racism. I use indigenous nomenclature and lexicon to show case ways that pre-Colonial Africa enabled people to navigate life. I get uplifted and feel authentic. I am sure this is one way, I can figure out the remnants of structures that promote directly perpetuated racism and provide solutions which return the dignity of people.
